Got the block back and it looks brand new, very happy.
Before I took it to the machine shop I spent some time deburring the oil passages. Always time well spent.





Spent some today cleaning and getting the block painted.

I am replacing the dished LQ4 pistons with LQ9 flat top pistons to bump up the compression a bit. The 2005 LQ4 rods are already the better floating design but I think I will upgrade the rods for better ones with arp bolts. Cheap insurance.

Bought a LS spring compressor tool a few days ago and it just came.
Worth every penny, had the springs out faster then with any other tool I've ever used.
Never had an air one yet though.

Starting looking around for a set of cylinder head stands. Most were at least $50, so out came the tools and for $10 here's my homemade stands. The OCD in me won't let them stay looking like that for long. A little smoothing out & polishing is in order. They work great.



Used some over cleaner and all the carbon came right off.

Looking for a fast weekend fab job and came up with this, crankshaft stand.
Only one I found online was a Goodson one and it was $124.
Sorry, but for about $20 I can build my own.
Here it is.

Eagle Rods came in for the LS, another piece of the puzzle is here.
Researching cams at the moment for the next piece.

Also, starting to look for an old pickup to stick the Camaro's driveline in, another project. YEAH!!!!!

Ok guy's, this is my first LS build and my first engine build in many years.
Trying to choose a cam , I contacted Comp Cams and this is what they suggested for me.
I told them it would be mainly a street car with the occasional auto or road course. I also said I was looking for around 450 hp. Maybe it's just me but does seem like a very aggressive cam for my purposes? Please let me know what you think.

Well, after a bunch of recomendations from alot of people on several forums I have decided not to go with this cam.
Haven't quite decided yet on which cam but think I will move onto the cylinder heads.
Time to take them to the shop and get them done.

Spent the day cleaning and straightening the garage getting it ready for the winter projects. Have to build a new motor for the Camaro and rebuild the Mustang's 5.0.
Should be a busy winter.

Hi I am building a 1970 Camaro. I was looking at a set of Wheels from Ridler too. I was wondering what size wheels and backspacing did you go with? Also, what size tires where you able to fit under the wheel wells?

Kris,
With those size wheels they only had one backspace.
I modified the front inner wheel wells & fenders because the car is lowered and it was rubbing just a little when I would hit a bump.

Hi Everyone,
Been a long time since my last post, life got in the way big time.
Had to put the Camaro on hold for a while but I'm back on it.
Just spent the last 6 months block sanding & sanding & sanding & sanding to get everything as straight as possible.
Sprayed 3 coats of primer surfacer last weekend and started to sand that down with 320, 400, then 600.
Hope to get it sanded and into the paint shop in the next few weeks.
More progress reports to follow.
