Default 1969 Camaro w/ no name

As soon as my 6 piston Wilwoods make it in from Frank at Prodigy, I will have the car back to a roller. The plan is to take it down to my friend's body shop next week to get it sprayed. The body isn't too far away. He lets me use his shop, gun, etc., so it works out great for me. I only have to pay for the materials I use. Another friend of mine and I should finish up the motor tomorrow night. I am very fortunate to have some older friends that have forgotten more about cars than I'll ever know. I couldn't do it without them. I will post pics of the motor next week. It's a blueprinted and balanced 509 with Brodix Race-Rite heads, a Lunati hydraulic roller, and an Arizona Speed TPI. A bowler 4L80e will be behind the 509.

Frank also sold me some Boze RPM wheels that should arrive in 4 weeks. They have the gunmetal centers. 18x8 up front and 18X10 out back. The rearend is narrowed, so I was able to go with 4.25" of backspacing on the rear wheels. Anyway, I will post more pictures over the next month. I hope to have the car running and driving within the next 4-6 weeks. I have been working on it about 60 hours a week since I have been out of school. Feel free to comment or ask questions about the specifics of the project. I get on this site when I wake up, at lunch, and the evening. I really enjoy it!

Here is also a link to my first 69.

Keep us posted, the motor sounds insane. Please post pics of those 18x10's with the narrowed rear. I'm really interested to see how those look.

Finally have some updates for you guys. We ran into a couple of problems with parts compatibility. I received some Mark IV parts that weren't compatible with my Gen V, so the engine build took a little longer than normal.

I'm going to spray the satin black in the morning. 400 all day today, and it will be ready. I had originally planned on spraying it with DP90, but I am going to drive the car for a year before we paint it. I was advised that DP90 would collect moisture and produce a surface rust. I'm spraying it with a satin urethane. Next summer I can block that down with 600 and be ready for paint.

I also mocked up the tires for the back. 275 40 18s

Hopefully my 6 piston Wilwoods make it in from Frank by the end of the week, and my Boze wheels should be in next week or the week after next. More pictures to come!

I'm making a little progress. I finally got the car in satin black. It looks a lot better to have it all one color. I think it will look really nice with the gunmetal centers on the wheels.

I have the motor ready to bolt up to the Bowler 4L80e. I plan on doing that tomorrow and dropping it in. I know I have to do some clearance work on the tunnel, but I hope to have the motor in tomorrow evening. Then I can begin fabbing a trans crossmember.

What version of satin black did you use? Was 400 the final sanding before you sprayed? I ask because I am basically in the same boat.

It was a single stage urethane. I don't remember the brand. I'm sorry I'm not much help. My friend that was letting me use his body shop keeps it on hand. I just bought a gallon off him. I can check on that for you if you are interested. It is a good sealer, and it will give a good guide coat for sanding next summer when I get ready to paint. 400 will be fine with a urethane like that. If you are doing base/clear, 600 is the way to go. The urethane is thicker and covers well. PM me if you want me to call him and get the exact product name.

Don't have any new pictures as of now, but I have managed to install the motor and trans. I'm working on wiring/mounting ECU, trans controller, etc... and fabbing a trans crossmember. I have my fingers crossed that the brakes will finally get here this week. I'll update with some pics toward the end of the week.

I have a few more updates before the holiday weekend. I was able to get the ecu and the TCI controller mounted. I mounted them in rubber and used lock washers under the nuts. I pretty much have the wiring roughed in. Now it's time to take the rolled up and labeled wire to where it needs to be on the car. Most of the loose stuff around the ECU needs to go to the fuse box. All the other wires in the foreground are just laying there somewhat out of the way. They are from the American Autowire kit.

I decided to put the MSD box in the cowl. Many advised me against putting it underneath the dash where I originally planned to install it. I also mounted it in rubber and used nylon lock nuts.

Here's a picture of the Bowler 4l80e and the bent 1 1/4" tubing for the crossmember. I have to build some tabs and weld them in on the frame. The smaller tubing is what will be pinched between the tabs when the 1/2" bolt is tightened on each side. I will weld that into the 1 1/4" on each end. We bent the tubing in that shape to get as much exhaust clearance as possible. I am running the pypes 3 1/2" X pipe with magnaflow race series 3 1/2" stainless mufflers. I hope it isn't too loud! It should rumble for sure.

My friend and I (the one that helped me build the engine) dissected the engine wiring harness. It was off an early 90s Camaro 5.7 (1227730 computer). We printed off a pin out and removed everything we didn't need. You can see what wasn't needed in the picture.

And finally, just a couple engine shots to remind you guys what I'm working with over here. I can't wait to get it fired!

Nice work. That's my kind of build. Things like reusing an old harness. Yea it might take the better part of a day to sort it out but sure beats shelling out $$500+ for an aftermarket harness. Keep it up!!
